Americana musician and songwriter in the Albany, NY area.

A few years ago while researching my ancestry, I found a picture of my great-great-grandfather and my great-great-uncle sitting on chairs out in the country somewhere in the Catskill Mountains playing their fiddle and guitar. A few years after that, my aunt told me that another relative, a great-uncle, played guitar and mandolin in a local band and wrote songs. Around the same time, my mother gifted me with a violin that was her father's. Having that violin, that picture and that information about my great-uncle means the world to me.

I remember being about 13 years old, sitting at our piano practicing for my weekly lesson, wishing I knew how to write songs. Years after that, someone in the world music band I was in convinced me to try to jam over a chord progression he was working on. I made up a melody on the spot with my flute. That was life changing and began my passion for songwriting. So now I'm teaching myself guitar, banjo and Irish bouzouki and writing songs that are intended to be reminiscent of old American/celtic folk songs. I've recently added an antique Irish flute to my group of instruments and hope to do it justice in the not-too-distant future.

I hope you enjoy the songs I share, and may you be surrounded by bright blessings always.     -karen
